What is the news about Florida hurricane evacuation flights?

A July 14 Miami Herald report highlighted PriorityEvac’s hurricane evacuation membership for Florida residents. Miami Herald ↗

We reviewed the provider’s public information on September 30, 2026 to explain the offer and the questions it raises for travelers.

PriorityEvac identifies GlobalX as its contracted Airbus A320-family aircraft operator and Project Dynamo as its evacuation operations partner. PriorityEvac ↗

For private aviation shoppers, the key distinction is the purchase: a place in an organized passenger evacuation, rather than exclusive use of a business jet with a personally chosen itinerary. Our airliner charter guide explains the larger-aircraft category.

How much does PriorityEvac cost, and what is included?

The advertised standard price is $1,250 per member per year. At that rate, four people total $5,000 before extras; this is simple arithmetic, not a household quote. PriorityEvac ↗

Build a household budget around the whole absence: getting to the airport, staying away, caring for pets and returning home. Ask for a written total with every traveler and animal listed. A quoted membership price alone cannot tell you what the complete disruption will cost.

Which Florida airports are listed, and where do flights go?

PriorityEvac lists six departure airports and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) as the destination. It assigns a departure airport during enrollment after reviewing residence eligibility and household needs. PriorityEvac ↗

PriorityEvac’s published Florida departure network
CoastListed departure airports
East coastMiami (MIA), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Palm Beach (PBI)
West coastTampa (TPA), Sarasota Bradenton (SRQ), Southwest Florida/Fort Myers (RSW)

The network is described on the provider’s process page. PriorityEvac ↗ Ask for the exact terminal, check-in instructions and a realistic plan for reaching your assigned airport. Do not substitute a nearby business-aviation airport just because it serves the same city.

Our Miami private charter guide covers ordinary charter planning; this evacuation program has its own airport assignments.

What triggers the evacuation flights?

Full activation requires both a timing threshold and a storm-severity threshold, according to PriorityEvac. A member’s preference to depart is not the published trigger. PriorityEvac ↗

  • Timing: an NHC hurricane watch for the covered coast, a 40% probability of tropical-storm-force winds at a service airport, or an earliest reasonable arrival time below 72 hours.
  • Severity: the storm has reached Category 1 or stronger, or an NHC forecast advisory projects Category 2 or stronger within 48 hours.

These are the provider’s published operating thresholds. PriorityEvac ↗ An earlier notification stage uses a 20% wind-probability threshold within 96 hours. During activation, households receive airport and check-in assignments. PriorityEvac ↗

Keep the service’s messages alongside official emergency alerts. A commercial program’s activation decision does not replace an evacuation order from local authorities. Florida Division of Emergency Management ↗

Which limitations deserve attention before paying?

PriorityEvac’s FAQ says a declined activation still counts toward the two-event allowance. It also acknowledges that rapid storm development can close airports before flights can operate. PriorityEvac ↗

The FAQ describes in-season enrollment as nonrefundable and says the program is not medical transport. Review the actual agreement and any required accommodations before paying. PriorityEvac ↗

PriorityEvac’s homepage also states that members are not insureds or beneficiaries under its corporate insurance policy. Corporate financial backing should not be read as personal travel-insurance coverage. PriorityEvac ↗

Our suggested questions turn the general offer into a household-specific decision:

  • Enrollment: Is our address eligible, is capacity available, and when does our confirmed membership begin?
  • Disruption: What does the agreement provide if the airport closes, the assigned flight cannot operate, or we cannot reach check-in?
  • Household needs: Which pet, mobility and baggage arrangements have been accepted in writing?
  • Return: Who arranges our journey home, and how should we budget if access to our neighborhood remains restricted?

Request the controlling agreement and retain the dated version you accept. Website summaries help compare the concept; the written terms should answer the specific commitment.

Do Florida residents need to fly out to evacuate safely?

A flight out of Florida is not the only evacuation option. Florida’s Division of Emergency Management advises residents to know their zone and home, follow local orders, and consider friends or family outside the evacuation zone. Florida Division of Emergency Management ↗

Start with the official zone lookup and local instructions. If an evacuation is ordered, follow its timing rather than waiting for a preferred transport option. Identify an alternative place to stay and a route there before travel becomes urgent. Florida Division of Emergency Management ↗

Our assessment: compare the membership against the actual problem your household needs to solve. Write down who needs to leave, where they can stay, what they can carry and how they will return. A prepaid flight arrangement is useful only if the rest of that plan also works.

Frequently asked questions

Does this membership book an entire private jet for my family?

The published program uses contracted Airbus passenger aircraft. Our reading is that you are buying access to an organized evacuation, not choosing an exclusive business-jet itinerary. PriorityEvac ↗

Are return flights included in the described service?

The published flight sequence ends in Atlanta, with subsequent arrangements left to members. Confirm the return plan and budget before enrollment. PriorityEvac ↗

Can I treat this article as an evacuation alert?

No. This is a dated analysis of a membership offer. Use official local emergency instructions for decisions about a particular storm. Florida Division of Emergency Management ↗
