Who can pursue the IADA designation?
IADA’s published eligibility guidance limits the program to professionals employed by an IADA Accredited Dealer or approved aircraft manufacturer. Its June 2026 explanation places the experience requirement with the sponsoring organization. IADA ↗
That makes employer eligibility an early question for anyone considering this career path. Our advice is to establish whether your role and experience qualify before budgeting for preparation or promising a certification date. Ask the program administrator how enrollment, the preparation clock and exam scheduling will work during the transition.
Readers comparing entry routes can use our private jet broker training guide to separate employer training, charter courses and aircraft sales education.
What does the change mean for aircraft buyers and sellers?
Certification applies to the individual broker; accreditation applies to the dealer company. IADA says accredited firms undergo annual review, including checks on insurance, transaction activity and their sales teams. IADA ↗
For a client choosing representation, our assessment is that a more explicit curriculum provides a useful starting point for questions. The announcement alone does not establish better sale prices, faster closings or fewer transaction problems. Those outcomes would require evidence beyond the exam requirements.
A practical comparison should connect the credential to the person and team who will handle your aircraft:
- Verify both names. Check the adviser in IADA’s Certified Brokers directory and the firm in its Accredited Dealers directory. IADA ↗
- Ask for relevant experience. Discuss recent work with your aircraft category, the markets involved and the side of the transaction the broker represented.
- Identify responsibilities. Establish who handles valuation, technical review, transaction coordination and specialist advice, and when each person becomes involved.
- Understand the engagement. Ask how representation, compensation, communication and potential conflicts will be explained in writing.
If you are evaluating an acquisition, our private jet price and ownership guide provides a framework for comparing the aircraft purchase with the continuing ownership budget.
How does this relate to charter broker training?
This announcement concerns aircraft sales and acquisition: representing people buying or selling aircraft. Charter brokerage centers on arranging flights. A reader searching broadly for “private jet broker certification” should establish which job a program prepares them to do.
For aspiring sales brokers, the useful next step is a conversation with an eligible employer and the certification administrator. For aspiring charter brokers, compare training against the work of sourcing aircraft, coordinating an itinerary and explaining a flight proposal. Our charter booking checklist shows that separate workflow.
What still needs clarification?
GlobalAir’s October 12 report notes that IADA did not explain whether already-certified brokers would face new requirements at recertification. GlobalAir.com — Jadda Tyree ↗ IADA’s existing public guidance calls for continuing education and recertification every five years. IADA ↗
Existing credential holders should ask which requirements apply at their next renewal. New candidates should request current fees, enrollment dates and transition instructions directly. Those details determine an individual application plan; the announcement does not settle them.
Frequently asked questions
Can a dealer’s accreditation tell me whether my adviser is certified?
Check the individual as well as the company. The two designations recognize different subjects, and IADA maintains separate directories. Ask who will lead your transaction and verify that person’s current listing. IADA ↗
Does PJS provide IADA certification or enrollment?
No. Private Jet Specialist reports on the program and publishes educational guides. Contact IADA and an eligible sponsoring employer about admission, fees and certification requirements.
