What is the main difference between the Phenom 300E and CJ4?
The useful distinction is the aircraft offered for your flight, supported by model-specific specifications. This comparison uses the Phenom 300E and CJ4 Gen2. A proposal saying only “CJ4” needs a generation and cabin confirmation; Textron’s current product page promotes the Gen3. Textron Aviation ↗
| Reference | Phenom 300E | Citation CJ4 Gen2 |
|---|---|---|
| Published cruise figure | 464 knots high-speed cruise | 451 knots maximum cruise |
| Published range | 2,010 nautical miles | 2,165 nautical miles |
| Range reference load | Five occupants; long-range cruise | Ferry mission; long-range cruise |
| Passenger layout to request | Actual cabin seat map and crew arrangement | Actual cabin seat map and crew arrangement |
| Selection priority | Cabin fit and complete flight proposal | Cabin fit and complete flight proposal |
The figures come from the model-specific manufacturer brochures. A published maximum occupant count may include a pilot position or optional seating; it does not establish the number of comfortable passenger seats on a charter. Embraer ↗ Textron Aviation ↗
Does the CJ4 fly farther than the Phenom 300E?
The two headline numbers alone do not answer a passenger’s nonstop question. Embraer publishes a loaded reference mission; the cited CJ4 Gen2 card uses a ferry mission. Comparing them as though they carry the same travelers would be misleading.
Ask each operator to assess the same passengers, baggage weights, departure window, airport pair and required reserves. The response should say whether a fuel stop is planned and what would trigger one. Wind direction, routing and the actual aircraft configuration matter. A higher maximum cruise figure also does not translate directly into the same reduction in door-to-door time.
For an illustrative Teterboro–Miami request with four adults and weekend bags, ask for both aircraft on the same brief. This is a comparison scenario, not a flight-performance claim. Start with the Teterboro airport guide to specify the departure facility.
Which cabin is better for passengers and luggage?
The better cabin is the one that accommodates your entire party in the seats you actually want. Compare current photographs and the seat map for the offered aircraft, including any side-facing seat, divan or lavatory-position seat proposed as passenger capacity.
A family with children may prioritize facing seats and clear boarding arrangements; a business group may need usable tables and working connectivity. Ask whether the quoted internet service supports your intended work and whether use is included. Do not infer installed equipment from the newest manufacturer brochure.
Send bag dimensions as well as weights, particularly for golf clubs, skis or hard-shell cases. Storage volume cannot show whether a long rigid item fits through the baggage opening. The Phenom 300 family charter guide gives broader context; this comparison specifically evaluates the 300E against CJ4 Gen2 proposals.
Is the Phenom 300E or Citation CJ4 cheaper to charter?
There is no defensible universal price winner without matching trip quotes. Aircraft positioning, the return plan and the commercial terms can change the total even when two cabin options meet the same need.
- Request the payable total for the complete itinerary, naming the aircraft model and operating carrier.
- Ask whether positioning, airport handling, applicable taxes and crew expenses are included.
- Identify conditional charges such as deicing, changed departure times, extra catering and overnight parking.
- Compare quote expiry, deposit requirements, cancellation and replacement-aircraft terms.
For an illustrative same-day business return, ask whether the aircraft waits or leaves and returns. Those are different operating plans, even if the passenger flight legs look identical. Our charter cost guide explains why an advertised hourly amount is only part of the buying decision.
Which should you request first?
Request both when cabin size and route suitability appear comparable; prioritize the proposal that resolves your specific constraints. This is our editorial buying approach, not a measured ranking of aircraft quality.
A Phenom proposal with suitable luggage capacity and a confirmed nonstop plan can be preferable to a CJ4 proposal with an inconvenient stop, and the reverse can also be true. If a particular generation matters, have the substitution terms preserve that requirement or define what alternatives you will accept.
Before booking, record the acceptable passenger layout, bag list, internet need and timing in one brief. Use the private flight booking checklist and request a charter proposal with the same requirements for each aircraft.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Citation CJ4 Gen2 the same as a CJ4 Gen3?
No. The generation must be identified. This article uses the CJ4 Gen2 product card, and does not attribute the Gen3’s advertised flight-deck equipment to a Gen2 charter. Textron Aviation ↗
Is the Phenom 300E faster than the CJ4 Gen2?
The cited manufacturer figures list 464 knots high-speed cruise for the 300E and 451 knots maximum cruise for the CJ4 Gen2. Actual elapsed time depends on the operator’s flight plan and conditions.
Can either aircraft take all its maximum occupants at maximum range?
Do not assume so. Seat capacity, crew positions, payload and range are different limits. Ask for a flight-specific assessment using the actual passengers and bags.
What if the quoted aircraft changes?
Ask for the replacement model, generation, cabin layout and baggage confirmation before accepting a substitution. Review whether the agreement permits a change in price or itinerary.
